Gustave Blache III Art Scholarships

Cultivating artistic talent from Louisiana

To help foster Louisiana’s young artists, the LEH and artist Gustave Blache III have partnered to offer the Gustave Blache III Art Scholarships for Aspiring Artists to support students attending the School of Visual Arts (SVA) in New York City.

 

Named after accomplished Louisiana artist and SVA alumnus Gustave Blache III, the scholarship is open to all aspiring artists from Louisiana interested in pursuing either Bachelor or Master of Fine Arts degrees at SVA, one of the nation’s premiere art schools. Applications for the 2025-6 school year scholarships are OPEN NOW  through February 1, 2025. Please review the application guidance below before applying.

How to Apply

Aspiring artists from Louisiana who are either high school seniors (undergraduate award) or seeking to begin work on a Master of Fine Arts degree (graduate award)

  • Bachelor of Fine Arts Scholarship Award of $25,000/annually for four years*
  • Master of Fine Arts Scholarship Award of $25,000/annually for two years*

These $25,000-a-year scholarship awards represent $25,000 toward an annual tuition fee of $50,000.

Applications for the scholarship will open on September 15, 2024, and close February 1, 2025. Recipients will be notified in spring of 2025.

Please note the following SVA deadlines:

  • SVA’s preferred application date for incoming freshmen for maximum consideration for scholarships is December 1.
  • SVA graduate school application due date is January 15.
  • SVA incoming freshmen application final due date for scholarship consideration is February 1.
  • SVA’s fall 2024 undergraduate and graduate classes begin on September 2, 2025.

All applicants will be required to upload a portfolio of original work, including a minimum of 10 and a maximum of 15 art samples.

Of special note: The awarding of this scholarship is dependent upon the applicant’s successful application and acceptance into the School of Visual Art’s illustration or other fine arts program.

Students applying for a Gustave Blache III Scholarship should carefully review SVA’s admissions requirements and be prepared to submit an application to SVA. The application deadline for graduate admissions at SVA is generally mid-January. For undergraduates, applications are accepted on a rolling basis.

This scholarship may not be used at any other school.
