PRIME TIME selected for quality assessment program

PRIME TIME, the LEH’s acclaimed family literacy program, has been accepted to participate in the New Orleans Youth Program Quality Initiative (NOLA-YPQI) cohort for the 2017-2018 school year. The LEH will join 36 others in the third year of NOLA-YPQI.

The NOLA-YPQI program is designed to engage a cohort of organizations in using national research and best practices to develop a localized model for improving the quality of programs serving children and youth. The program provides a variety of support, including an organizational stipend of $5,000, external program assessments, and instructional coaching. The program also provides coursework in structuring youth discussions, building communities, and reframing conflict that can assist in our teacher training programs.

The model was developed by the Michigan-based David P. Weikart Center for Program Quality. The goal is to give organizations support in assessing the quality of programs, along with training to plan and implement improvements. The model has impacted over 4,000 programs in the Unites States. YPQI was first piloted in New Orleans out of Baptist Community Ministries. This year marks the transition of YPQI into a stand-alone program of the Youth Development Intermediary.
