Dr. Thomas Wartenberg Visits PRIME TIME
On March 24th, PRIME TIME hosted a daylong conversation with Dr. Thomas Wartenberg, Emeritus Professor of Philosophy at Mount Holyoke College and author of Big Ideas for Little People, which makes the case for teaching philosophy to elementary school students.
Dr. Wartenberg works with undergraduate students at Mount Holyoke to understand the essential questions driving philosophical thought, and supports his students in sharing those ideas in second-grade classes through accessible, children’s-book-centered conversations.
After an evening site visit to the PRIME TIME Family Reading Time program at Martin Luther King Library in the Lower Ninth Ward, the PRIME TIME staff and Dr. Wartenberg discussed possibilities for future partnerships in order to strengthen the role of humanities-based education for our nation’s youngest learners.
