DeBacher Speaks at Progressive Education Summit
The Division of Education’s Vice President, Sarah DeBacher, was a featured presenter at the 2nd Annual Progressive Education Summit South, held March 25th at Home A. Plessy Community School. The summit, hosted in partnership with Baltimore’s City Neighbors Foundation, brought educators together for a day of exploring best practices in teaching students across grade levels and subject areas.
Keynote speaker Steve Seidel, Director of the Arts in Education Program at the Harvard Graduate School of Education, highlighted the results of the Project Zero research project on how we know “quality education” when we see it. The answer: it is made visible by teachers and students interacting with one another–and the key to making it visible lies in giving students a voice.
DeBacher led a workshop on building classroom cultures of inquiry with teachers from schools across New Orleans. Inquiry is at the heart of HomeRoom, PRIME TIME’s teacher professional development program. The next HomeRoom workshop will take place in Shreveport on April 22nd.
