W.K. Kellogg Funds Full Circle: Engaging Kids, Parents & Teachers

The Louisiana Endowment for the Humanities’ PRIME TIME Family Reading Time will implement a comprehensive initiative in four high-need New Orleans neighborhoods designed to engage kids, parents and educators in the pursuit of academic success.

The two-year initiative is funded by a $300,000 grant from the W.K. Kellogg Foundation of Battle Creek, Mich.

Full Circle is a three-part initiative that delivers research validated and family-focused programs that target the two environments where children spend most of their growing years: the home and the school. PRIME TIME Preschool begins with children ages 3-5 and their parents, and families learn from scholars and storytellers during pre-reading activities that introduce children to group learning. PRIME TIME Family Reading brings 6-10 year olds together with their families in reading and book discussion sessions that encourage thinking and reasoning skills. PRIME TIME HomeRoom is a teacher professional development program that strengthens educators’ open-ended questioning skills.

“These PRIME TIME programs offer a holistic approach that reaches beyond basic literacy skills, encouraging children and parents to interact and partner with educators for improved literacy and education outcomes,” said Miranda Restovic, Executive Director of the Louisiana Endowment for the Humanities.

PRIME TIME programs take place in schools, libraries, Head Start Centers and other community-centered locations, and are scheduled through an application process. For additional information visit: www.primetimefamily.org.
