Poet Laureate Preview Set for November 4 in New Orleans

Join the Louisiana Endowment for the Humanities and Delgado Community College for a special preview welcoming Louisiana’s newest Poet Laureate, Gina Ferrara. In this sneak peek for the New Orleans poetry community, Ferrara will share what it means to be named Louisiana’s literary ambassador. Guests can expect a poetry reading from Ferrara and moderated conversation and Q&A with LEH President and Executive Director Miranda Restovic. Doors open at 6 p.m., and the reading begins at 6:30 p.m. at Delgado’s Timothy K. Baker Theatre. 

Throughout a two-year tenure, the poet laureate travels the state encouraging fellow Louisianans to explore and engage with poetry, supporting Louisiana’s vibrant and thriving poetry scene. Gina Ferrara is Louisiana’s 18th Poet Laureate.  

Gina Ferrara is an associate professor of English at Delgado Community College. She lives in New Orleans and has five poetry collections. Her latest, Amiss, was published by Dos Madres Press in 2023. Her work has appeared in many journals including Callaloo, The Poetry Ireland Review, Tar River, The Southern Review and was nominated for a Best of the Net and a Pushcart in 2024. Since 2007, she has curated The Poetry Buffet, a monthly reading series in New Orleans.
