“Latino Americans” Screening at the Hilliard Museum in Lafayette

On Wednesday, January 27, the Paul and Lulu Hilliard University Art Museum in Lafayette will host a free screening of an episode from “Latino Americans,” the acclaimed PBS documentary. The event is part of “Latino Americans in Lafayette,” a project directed by the LEH and funded by the American Library Association and the National Endowment for the Humanities. The event begins at 6pm and is open to the public.

Following the screening, University of Louisiana at Lafayette professors Dr. Lena Suk, Dr. Leslie Bary, and Hilton Cordoba will join members of the local Latino community for a discussion on the diversity of the populations that make up “Latinos” in the US and the role of Latino American identity in contemporary society.

The event is the fourth installment in the “Latino Americans in Lafayette” project. In June 2015 the LEH announced the awarding of a $10,000 grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) and the American Library Association to produce a series of programs in 2015 and 2016. The council will partner withLafayette Public Library System, Asociación Cultural Latino Acadiana, ULL’s Edith Garland Dupre’ Library, Lafayette International Center, and the Consulate General of Mexico to host Latino Americans: 500 Years of History, a public programming initiative produced by the NEH and the (ALA), is part of an NEH initiative, The Common Good: The Humanities in the Public Square.
