“Humanities Hero” Willie Mount Receives Honorary McNeese Doctorate

Each month, the LEH newsletter features a “Humanities Hero,” a profile of an individual who embodies the spirit of the humanities disciplines, and who brings alive that spirit to the benefit of their community…whether local, national, or global.

This month’s Humanities Hero is Dr. Willie Mount, from Lake Charles, who was recently awarded an honorary doctorate of Humane Letters from her alma mater, McNeese University, during its 146th commencement ceremony. She also serves on the LEH board of directors, and is a strong advocate for humanities education and programming.

A business owner, Mount was the first elected female mayor of Lake Charles, then the first female elected Louisiana senator from District 27.

In addition to serving on the LEH board of directors and the McNeese University board of directors, Mount has been the recipient of the McNeese Distinguished Alumni Award and was inducted into the McNeese College of Business Hall of Fame.

The LEH staff congratulates and appreciates Dr. Willie Mount. To read more, visit here.
