Celebrating the First Anniversary of the John Scott Center

Be a part of the celebration! The Helis Foundation John Scott Center is marking our first full year of being open to the public this month with unique programs throughout September. See the full schedule below, and be sure to mark your calendars! All events take place at the center, 938 Lafayette Street in New Orleans, and admission is free.

 

Pass It On Open Mic Showcase

Performances at this month’s Pass It On open mic will include featured poet, Lyrical Paradigm, soulful vocals from New Orleans’s own Caren Green, and an escape to new worlds with multimedia artist Soraya Jean-Louis’s Afrofuturistic creations.

 

Studio Insights: The Living Workshop

Not only did John T. Scott create masterful works of art, he also created a culture of communal creation through his studio practice. This panel will bring together the voices and experiences of those who bore witness to Scott’s studio practice. Panelists will discuss the studio atmosphere he cultivated and share how they continue his mantra of “Pass It On” with the annual Scott Festival. In addition to several incomplete low relief, three-dimensional sculptures on display, attendees will have have behind the scenes access to some of the artwork produced from the Scott Festival.

 

Family Fun Day!

Saturday, September 16, 12–6 p.m.

This fun-filled Saturday will feature activities and events for families and children, with engaging tours, music, children’s artmaking, interactive Prime Time story-sharing, and refreshments.
