Application Period for Rebirth Grants Begins Sept. 1

The Louisiana Endowment for the Humanities is pleased to announce a grant opportunity to support projects that provide access to the humanities for citizens in Louisiana. The 2014 Rebirth Grants mark the resumption of the LEH grants program, previously suspended due to state funding cuts. Since 1971, the program has invested more than $25 million in support of organizations, artists, educators and scholars who explore the unparalleled history and culture of our state.

Rebirth Grants range from $500 to $5,000. Eligible projects include new and continuing scholarly research about Louisiana; public humanities programs that involve audience participation and discussion; documentary film; photography and radio projects; digital humanities projects; assistance with publication projects and educational initiatives. Special emphasis is given to projects that generate new content that can be incorporated into Louisiana Cultural Vistas magazine and KnowLA, the Digital Encyclopedia of Louisiana, two LEH programs that make the humanities available to the general public.

The application for 2014 Rebirth Grants will be online Monday, September 1. The deadline for applications is Wednesday, October 1. For more information, interested groups should email LEH Director of Public Relations and Programs Brian Boyles.
