Louisiana Creole Voices along the Mississippi

As part of an LEH/NEH grant, Margaret Marshall (retired French professor) and Thomas Klingler (Tulane University) are having digitized 200 cassettes, recorded for the Dictionary of Louisiana Creole in the 1980s and 1990s, at the Center for Louisiana Studies (ULL). This lecture will inform the public about the project and the historic, linguistic and social significance of the Vacherie and Point Coupée varieties of Louisiana Creole. Nathan Wendte (Tulane University) will discuss transcription of the recordings. Speech samples from the original cassettes will be given and discussed.
