Memories of Hurricane Harvey

The LEH has partnered with the University of Louisiana at Lafayette’s Guilbeau Center for Public History for a 12-parish oral history collection project focused on Hurricane Harvey’s impact on southwest Louisiana. ULL researchers will be set up in the 12 Louisiana parishes declared federal disaster zones following Hurricane Harvey in 2017. At each of these sites, they will collect oral history interviews that will be used in assembling a mobile exhibit in the ULL Department of History’s Museum on the Move Airstream trailer.

If you live in one of these parishes and experienced the impact or assisted others following Hurricane Harvey, come out to share your story and participate in the exhibit! Funded through a National Endowment for the Humanities Emergency Grant, this research is part of the Recent Louisiana Disasters Oral History Project and is sponsored by the Louisiana Endowment for Humanities, ULL Department of History, Guilbeau Center for Public History, Center for Louisiana Studies, Museum on the Move program, and host sites in each parish. For more information on the project, contact Dr. Liz Skilton at [email protected].  Visit the UL History Department Facebook page for updates to the tour schedule.
