March 14 – Watch! LPB Airs Zachary Richard’s Attakapas
Guests at last year’s LEH Bright Lights in the Humanities Awards received a sneak peek of Zachary Richard’s multi-media history of the Cajun people when the 2016 Humanist of the Year performed a scaled-down excerpt at the Marigny Opera House in New Orleans.
On Tuesday, March 14, at 7 p.m., the entire state will have a chance to experience the full production when Louisiana Public Broadcasting (LPB) airs Attakapas: The Cajun Story, a documentary featuring Richard’s February 2017 performance at the Manship Theater. The film is made possible in part by a Strategic Partnership Grant from the LEH.
Attakapas combines Richard’s original score with video recreations of the forced exile of the Cajun people from Acadie, the journeys that brought the Cajuns to Louisiana, and the thriving culture the Cajuns built along Bayou Teche. LPB will rebroadcast Attakapas on Sunday, March 19, at 5:30 pm. Visit lpb.org/cajunstory to learn more.
