Give the Gift of Louisiana!

Give the gift of Louisiana music, culture, art and literature this holiday season in one package – a subscription  to Louisiana Cultural Vistas makes shopping quick and simple with the click of a button. For a mere $20 per year, or the special rate of $35 for two years, your friends, family, clients and business associates will receive our quarterly magazine that brings the best of the Bayou State to the printed page. Our Winter 2015 issue debuted on December 1, marking our first edition dedicated to Louisiana music. Content includes an interview with Shreveport’s James Burton, a Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee who played with the likes of Elvis Presley and Ricky Nelson; a biographical profile of Jordan Noble, the enslaved drummer boy who joined Andrew Jackson’s troops at the 1815 Battle of New Orleans; an excerpt of a new book by Todd Mouton chronicling the life and times of Clifton Chenier, the “King of Zydeco”; and a photo essay by New Orleans photographer Zack Smith titled “My Louisiana Muse” that focuses on the state’s musicians, artists, writers, actors and photographers.

Looking ahead into 2016, future issues will focus upon the honorees at the LEH’s annual Humanities Awards Ceremony (Spring), and an overview of sports history in Louisiana (Summer).

We invite you to frequently visit KnowLouisiana.org, the online version of the magazine that also includes our extensive Digital Encyclopedia of Louisiana. Look for dozens of biographical entries about Louisiana’s musicians, past and present, from jazz greats Al Hirt and Louis Armstrong to R&B legends Allen ToussaintIrma Thomas and Ernie K-Doe. Over the course of the next month, our web exclusive content will include interviews with rising jazz artist Christian Scott, Shreveport’s longtime record salesman Stan “The Record Man” Lewis, and Doc Hawley, a river captain and calliope player who regularly performs aboard the Steamboat Natchez.

Since 1990, Louisiana Cultural Vistas magazine has documented the state’s arts, culture, history, and literature. Every issue features the work of scholars, artists, photographers, and writers who reflect our distinctive history and diverse population. In addition to publishing the work of contributors such as Ernest Gaines, Richard Ford, Anne Rice, Wynton Marsalis, and Lee Friedlander, Louisiana Cultural Vistas has served as an information clearinghouse by publicizing museum exhibitions, excerpting newly released scholarly books, and showcasing the work of new and established photographers and artists.
