Content includes an interview with Shreveport’s James Burton, a Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee who played with the likes of Elvis Presley and Ricky Nelson; a biographical profile of Jordan Noble, the enslaved drummer boy who joined Andrew Jackson’s troops at the 1815 Battle of New Orleans; an excerpt of a new book by Todd Mouton chronicling the life and times of Clifton Chenier, the “King of Zydeco”; and a photo essay by New Orleans photographer Zack Smith titled “My Louisiana Muse” that focuses on the state’s musicians, artists, writers, actors and photographers.

Looking ahead into 2016, future issues will focus upon the honorees at the LEH’s annual Humanities Awards Ceremony (Spring), and an overview of sports history in Louisiana (Summer).

Since 1990, Louisiana Cultural Vistas magazine has documented the state’s arts, culture, history, and literature. Every issue features the work of scholars, artists, photographers, and writers who reflect our distinctive history and diverse population. In addition to publishing the work of contributors such as Ernest Gaines, Richard Ford, Anne Rice, Wynton Marsalis, and Lee Friedlander, Louisiana Cultural Vistas has served as an information clearinghouse by publicizing museum exhibitions, excerpting newly released scholarly books, and showcasing the work of new and established photographers and artists.
