LEH Wins Pulitzer Centennial Campfires Initiative Grant
The Pulitzer Prize Board has announced the award of $34,650 to the Louisiana Endowment for the Humanities (LEH) for “Louisiana’s Pulitzers: A Yearlong Celebration,” a series of programs to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Prizes in 2016 through Pulitzer’s Campfires Initiative.
Funds from the initiative will support programs dedicated to four Pulitzer winners with ties to Louisiana: Tennessee Williams, Wynton Marsalis, Robert Penn Warren, and John Kennedy Toole. The LEH will partner with organizations across Louisiana, including the Tennessee Williams New Orleans Literary Festival, Satchmo Louis Armstrong Summerfest, Louisiana State University Press, The Southern Review, the Louisiana Book Festival and The Times-Picayune | NOLA.com. The LEH will publish new articles about each of the Pulitzer winners in its quarterly magazine, Louisiana Cultural Vistas, and produce public events to celebrate the works of Williams, Marsalis, Warren and Toole.
“Louisiana is blessed with a rich history of writers and musicians who’ve explored humanities themes through works that carried the culture of our state to a global audience,” said LEH Executive Director Miranda Restovic. “We look forward to working with our partners to renew the bonds between these Pulitzer winners and audiences in Louisiana.”
