Smith is a fine art and commercial portrait photographer, educator and musician who has been documenting the social, musical and cultural landscapes of Louisiana for the past 18 years. He is a staff photographer for the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival and French Quarter Fest. Smith’s work has been shown in galleries across the South including: The Ogden Museum of Southern Art, The Contemporary Art Center, The Big Top Gallery, CANARY Gallery, Jonathan Ferrara Gallery, and Preservation Hall. His photography is in the permanent collection of the City Of New Orleans and The New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Foundation.
Smith’s current photography project, “My Louisiana Muse”, sponsored in part by a matching grant from The New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Foundation, looks to produce fine art portraits of Louisiana artists and trace the connections between their inspirations, dreams, and finished work. Using the 19th century photographic inking technique called the Bromoil, Smith seeks to also connect the similar struggles and successes these artists find through his application of this process.
