April 16: Dillard University Hosts LEH-Funded Symposium
The Dillard University Ray Charles Program in African American Material Culture inaugural conference presents “The Story of New Orleans Creole Cooking: The Black Hand in the Pot.”The events take place Thursday, April 16, in Dillard’s Georges Auditorium, and Friday, April 17 at the Whitney Plantation.
The conference is funded in part by a Rebirth Grant from the LEH. The program will focus on the history and contributions of African Americans to the world famous New Orleans Creole cuisine, tracing the relationship between the city’s food and the Civil Rights Movement.
