Two LEH leaders have been tapped for national association board of directors positions: President/Executive Director Miranda Restovic was elected to the 2023 Federation of State Humanities Councils Board of Directors, and Vice President of Public Programs Erin Greenwald, Ph.D., was elected to the American Historical Association’s governing board, where she is also a member of the Research Division.
About the Federation of State Humanities Councils Board of Directors
As the membership organization for the nation’s state and jurisdictional humanities councils, the Federation of State Humanities Councils supports efforts to deepen our democracy using the humanities- literature, philosophy, history, ethics, arts, and the law. Through advocacy, events, partnerships, and shared resources, we unite the work and voices of the councils as they bring wisdom and vision into our everyday lives.
The 2023 Federation Board of Directors welcomed two new board members on November 12: Miranda Restovic, President and Executive Director of the Louisiana Endowment for the Humanities and Leo G. Pangelinan, Executive Director of the Northern Marianas Humanities Council. These directors, who were elected at the 2022 Annual Business Meeting that was held in conjunction with the National Humanities Conference, join 14 other board members who are continuing their terms in 2023.
The Federation board includes public members as well as council executive directors from states and territories across the nation. Each board member serves a four-year term. The board chair serves a two-year term and remains for another two years as the immediate past chair. Federation members participate in a nominating process early in the year and elect their representatives to the Federation Board at the Annual Business Meeting. This all-volunteer board is devoted to the Federation’s mission to represent and strengthen the state humanities councils, attending to organizational governance, member needs, and legislative strategy throughout the year.
About the American Historical Association
The American Historical Association promotes historical work and the importance of historical thinking in public life. Members of the Council and divisions are elected to three-year terms. Members of the Nominating Committee and the Committee on Committees are also elected to three-year terms, the other committees are appointive positions.
The AHA Research Division is responsible for promoting historical scholarship, encouraging the collection and preservation of historical documents and artifacts, ensuring equal access to information, and fostering the dissemination of information about historical records and research.
